A System for Picture Labeling

This document is an interim report on a research project to create an improved system for annotating pictures with textual labels. The research is based on an article from the MIT Media Laboratory entitled: Vision Texture for Annotationn2]. The goal of the present research is to understand and recreate the system described in the article, improve upon it where possible, establish new avenues of research and verify applicability of neural networks to the system. This report is divided into two main sections. The rst one will deal with the theoretical aspect of picture labeling. The second section will describe the actual system that was created for this project and will show some preliminary results.
